A Clinical Study of Trochanteric Fracture




Abstract
Sixty-three consecutive trochanteric hip fractures treated at Dept, of Orthopedic Surgery. Severance Hospital for 6 years since 1968 were reviewed.
Despite lack of follow-up, the late results in thirty-two cases of fracture were analyzed.
Eleven cases (34.4%) were treated by cast immobilization combined with traction and twenty-one
cases (65.6%), by internal fixation with conventional devices.
Six mal-unions in conservative treatement, one infection and one mal-union in operative treatment were experienced The average duration of radiological union was 12.3 weeks and no difference was found between the type of conventional fixation devices.
All patients except for the complicated cases were allowed to bear weight as early as tolerated, in an average of 8 weeks.
